Located just 13 miles northeast of Lawton, and 64 miles southwest of Oklahoma City, Elgin is a young upper-middle class suburb. Elgin is currently seeing a surge of development, a number of newly constructed homes are being developed around the city. While other real estate markets have seen a decline in home values, housing costs and developments, the Lawton-Fort Sill and surronding Comanche County area, has seen just the opposite. The 2nd Quarter of 2007, there were over 500 homes sold, at an average of $117,000. And this trend continues to move upward. The surronding Lawton community is developing and completing a number of growth and expansion projects throughout the area to ready themselves for the coming population surge over the next few years. BAE Systems, a global defense and aerospace company, is currently developing BAE Systems – Elgin Operations, which is scheduled to open in early 2009. This 150,000 square-foot facility will focus on production integration and assembly of the Non-Line-of-Sight (NLOS) Cannon for the U.S. Army’s Future Combat Systems (FCS) program. Both the city of Elgin and Comanche County will benefit from this new facility in the sort- and long-term by increasing and stabilizing the economic growth and development for the region. Already, well-known within the Elgin community, BAE Systems will be providing residents and newcomers with a number of employment, education and development opportunities. Each year, BAE Systems awards an Elgin High School senior a $4,000 tuition scholarship.
