Cascade Locks is located in Hood River County, and was named for the series of locks built in 1896 on the Columbia. The site was once called Whiskey Flats and was incorporated in 1935.

This town is also the starting point of the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail. The Columbia River Gorge is the only National Scenic Area in America and Cascade Locks is in the heart of it.

Cascade Locks is a friendly community and offers many recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike with great dining, a boat marina, windsurfing (the nearby town of Hood River is known as the "windsurfing capital of the world.") and sports from tennis, golf, white-river rafting and anything else you desire!

From mid-June to the end of September, the Sternwheeler Columbia Gorge, based in Cascade Locks, makes two hour excursions on the river daily. During the cruise, a narrative is given on local history, Indian legends, geology and points of interest.

New and older homes are generally built on large lots in the outlying areas, and in the town themselves are built on quiet, and peaceful streets. There are some historic homes in the town itself, all nicely preserved. When these sell, they generally sell for more than the average price of other homes in the area, but they provide a great return on your money! Other homes are well priced, with a four-bedroom home on a large lot with panoramic views selling for around $300,000.

Cascade Locks has a temperate climate with moderately warm summers and wet, mild winters. If you like rain, then you'll consider this paradise! The average annual precipitation is slightly less than 50 inches. Snow or freezing weather is rare.

Cascade Locks is perfectly situated for a quick commute across the river to Stevenson, or to several other communities. There is plenty of employment in this area, which is one reason why it is such a popular place to live.
