Within an hour and a half the beautiful Oregon coast awaits featuring huge dunes and magnificent headlands; and 2 to 3 hours away are fine snow parks for downhill and cross country skiing. Walking through Harrisburg is like taking a walk in the past as many of the buildings date from 1910 and before. At the end of this street you can see the Riverfront Park gazebo next to the Willamette River and just south of the boat ramp. Harrisburg's Riverfront Park runs along the banks of the river for several blocks providing both open and shady spaces from which to enjoy the view of the river. A gazebo with a long view of the Willamette is one of the city?s best-known landmarks, and a public boat ramp gives access to the river for canoeing, rafting, fishing, wildlife viewing and relaxation. The area in Harrisburg between the Willamette River and the Coburg hills is prime farmland and is one of the major producer of high-quality grass seed in the world. Harrisburg raises more cool season grasses and of a higher quality than any other place in the world! After the seed has been harvested it is brought to warehouses like this where it is cleaned and tested for purity and germination. Beyond the warehouse to the east you can see the Coburg hills, foothills of the magnificent Cascade range.
