Monmouth is located in east central Willamette Valley countryside, founded by pioneers in the mid-1800's. Agriculture and wood products are the major industries. Fruit and nut orchards, vineyards, and grass and grain fields are mixed among the Christmas tree and livestock farms. The population of Monmouth in 1999 was 8,310. The popular Western Oregon State University is located in Monmouth. Western Oregon University, Oregon's oldest public university, offers 36 bachelor's and four master's degrees through its two colleges, The College of Liberal Arts and Science and the College of Education. The temperatures ranges from 33 to 46 degrees in January, the coldest month, to 50-82 degrees in July the warmest month.
