Historically, Warrenton is the region at the end of the Lewis and Clark Trail. Warrenton was later platted in 1889, and incorporated as a city in 1899.

With a population of 4500, Warrenton is located on the Northwest Coast of Oregon, at the mouth of the Columbia River. It is home to one of Oregon's finest State Recreational Parks - Ft. Stevens, where one could enjoy leisure activities of clam digging, beach combing, bike riding and camping. Ft. Stevens is the site of one of Oregon's most famous shipwrecks, the Peter Iredale. Warrenton has a charter fishing boat port.

The principal industries of Clatsop County are fishing, lumber, and agriculture. About 30% of the lands within the county boundaries belong to the state of Oregon, as part of the state forests. The Port of Astoria was created in 1914 to support trade and commerce.
