Borough of Hummelstown, Pennsylvania

Population: 4,000

Located in Dauphin County

Hummelstown, Pennsylvania

The Borough of Hummelstown was first established as Frederickstown in the year 1762 when Frederick and Rosane Hummel purchased the land, laid out lots and sold them to German settlers. Hummelstown was incorporated as a Borough in 1874. Early trade and transportation development in the Borough was influenced by the nearby Union Canal. The Brownstone Quarries, located just outside the borough, provided steady employment for local residents.

Its proximity to Harrisburg and to Hershey makes Hummelstown primarily a bedroom community with most of its residents employed outside the Borough limits. The Borough, with its busy downtown area and small town atmosphere, is a convenient and pleasant place in which to live.

There is so much to do in and around Hummelstown — from thrilling roller coaster rides at Hersheypark to a relaxing riverboat cruise down the Susquehanna River on The Pride Of The Susquehanna. Or perhaps you would prefer to watch a game at the Harrisburg Senators ballpark or while away a night at the Harrisburg Symphony.

You'll find something for every season in Hummelstown. Hershey, the famous town of candy, is only two miles from Hummelstown. This chocolate-coated candy kingdom has grown from Milton S. Hershey's company town to an internationally known community, complete with a world-class amusement park and resort complex.

And just because the winter winds start blowing, don't think Hersheypark shuts down for the season. Transformed by the twinkling of half a million tiny lights, the park becomes Christmas Candylane, a holiday favorite for children of all ages.

Just a few minutes away, railway buffs will enjoy a scenic ride on the Middletown & Hummelstown Railroad. For a breathtaking trip underground, visit Indian Echo Caverns, a natural phenomenon sure to please the whole family. For more family fun, play miniature golf or have go-cart races at Adventure Sports in Hershey. And each October, enjoy the annual meeting of the Antique Auto Club of America (one of the world's largest antique auto shows), the Hershey Halloween Festival as well as the amazing Hersheypark Balloon Classic.
