Clarks Summit is a small town located in the rolling hills, winding roads, old stone walls, and streams and ponds of northeastern Pennsylvania. Within minutes of Scranton, Clarks Summit has convenient access to larger city amenities, but retains the unique charm for which the early settlers laid the foundation. Visitors to this town will find a certain historical influence, as antique shops are to be found along the downtown district. More contemporary shopping is also available in the area, but for people seeking to escape the malls and shopping plazas, Clarks Summit offers unique retail destinations, such as Greystone Gardens, a specialist garden center nestled in a beautiful woodland setting in the heart of Clarks Summit. The grounds are landscaped on the theme of an English cottage garden. The scenic and wooded setting of Clarks Summit and its close proximity to the Poconos makes this area quite desirable as a tourist destination and is a haven for lovers of the outdoors. The large number of rivers and lakes further extends the recreational opportunities, which range from fishing and rafting, to hiking and nature walks. During the autumn months this area is ablaze with some of the Northeast's most brilliant colors. Clarks Summit is serviced by US 6/11 and Highway 307, and is only miles from the toll road I-476 and I-81, the latter of which runs into central Scranton. Clarks Summit is surrounded by mountains and hills, with Bald Mountain to the west, Bell Mountain to the southeast, and the Moosic Mountains to the south. |
