Located in historic Berks County, so named for the lovely Berkshire County in England, Douglassville is a small town to the south east of the large city, Reading. This region was given such British names because it reminded the initial settlers of their home, England, with the rolling hills and even a river that runs near the town. The average home value in Douglassville is in the $65,000 range, a great price for a family of any size! There are several fine homes in this area that sell for under $100,000. Many new homes do sell for more than that, but even the largest homes here sell for well under the national average. Come explore the 30-mile long trails that wind around Blue Marsh Lake. There are multi-use trails, smaller loop trails, and nature trails, and a complete tour around the entire lake often takes an entire day! So be prepared, these trails are not for beginners. When you finish your hike, cool down by taking a swim in the lake (in the summer of course!) Or rent a boat and sail across it. Whatever you do, you are sure to have a full day of outdoor fun. And for those of you who are really adventurous, extend your hike or bike ride by another four and a half miles by traveling down the road a ways to the Union Canal Towpath. Much of this area has remained unchanged, and the residents plan to keep it that way. Arrowhead, the local golf course was a farm, until the enterprising farmer in the 1950's decided to create a golf course! He had to move the 300 year old log cabin from his property, which gives some idea of the history and age of Douglassville! This golf course is now 27 holes, and offers two distinct sets of links. Douglassville is a strong, stable community with a rich history and tradition. Homes reflect the changes in the times, and many have retained a sense of their past. There is still a rural feel to this region, so if you are looking for a place far from the crowds, but close enough to have a reasonable commute to and from work, then Douglassville is the place for you!
