Gettysburg is known throughout the world as the location of the three day battle, July 1,2 and 3, 1863 that marked the turning point of the Civil War. It is also known for the Gettysburg Address given by President Abraham Lincoln at the dedication of the National Cemetery on November 19, 1863. Another historic site is the farm in which President and Mrs. Eisenhower lived and is now open to the public.

Today, the Gettysburg National Military Park, the National Cemetery and Eisenhower Historic Site attract more than 1.5 million visitors each year, many of whom return several times to learn more about the details of the great battle.

Gettysburg has many other attractions. It is the home of Gettysburg College, a well known liberal arts institution, the Gettysburg Lutheran Seminary, the historic Gettysburg Hotel and many homes from the Civil War era or earlier.
