Indiana Township, Pennsylvania

Population: 6,809
Located in Allegheny County

Indiana Township is a township located in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. The township has a total population of 6,809 in one of the most rapidly developing communities that comprise the Fox Chapel Area School District. The Township of Indiana was incorporated in 1805 and is 17+ square miles in size. It was the fourth township formed in Allegheny County north of the Ohio and Allegheny Rivers. Indiana Township is only twelve miles from the ?Golden Triangle? which makes it one of the most desirable places to live, along with Fox Chapel.

Indiana Township constantly strives to defend and maintain its special ambience. One of our most important tasks is to preserve this position. Not only is it desirable for Indiana Township, it is desirable for the entire Pittsburgh area. Our wooded hills and relatively crowd-free residential developments are a valuable regional asset.

Cultural and ethnic diversity, renowned educational institutions, world-class medical facilities, short commutes and a low cost of living combine to create one of the most livable communities in America. Add to this mix the region's breath-taking urban and rural landscapes, an abundance of outdoor activities, professional sports and a thriving nightlife and you can see why Indiana Township is such a desirable place to live, work and play.

For recreation the plethora of state forests cannot be beat! One of the most popular ones is the Forbes State Forest. This forest lies along Laurel Ridge, and is a favorite of people from the greater Pittsburgh area and is heavily used for all types of outdoor recreation. In addition to these developed facilities, there are a number of undeveloped points of interest, which appeal to those with an adventurous spirit.

Home owners are very proud of their lovely homes, and in going through the neighborhood it is easy to see where they get their sense of pride. Homes here are well established, on wide streets with mature trees that look great no matter the season. Pittsburgh is close enough for a good commute to and from work, but far enough (in fact over the river) that you feel like you are leaving the cares of the workday behind you. Homes here are a little more expensive than those found in other parts of the greater Pittsburgh area, but the history of the neighborhood and the age of the homes accounts for a lot of that.

New homes or new construction is about average, not only for the area, but for the country. A four bedroom, two and a half bathroom home costs in the region of $270,000. A three-bedroom home of about 1,600 square feet sells for $180,000. There are always rentals available ? both homes and apartments, so there is something to suit everyone.

Indiana Township is an established area with must-see appeal! For a neighborhood that offers both a rural setting and an urban feel, you can?t go wrong with Indiana Township!
