Pennsylvania Real Estate & Relocation Guide
Ligonier Township, Pennsylvania
Population: 6,973
Located in Westmoreland County
Ligonier Township, Pennsylvania, located at the intersection of Routes 30 & 711 in Westmoreland County, is separated from the outside world by two massive, but not spectacular mountains. Laurel Mountain to the east and Chestnut Ridge to the west make Ligonier Valley a clearly defined entity; the two mountains permit very few roadways so that the Valley, in effect, is protected by two great walls, ten miles apart and about twenty-five long.
Historic Ligonier Valley is the home of Fort Ligonier, Linn Run State Park, Story Book Forest, Idlewild Park, and Compass Inn.
Quaint shops create a turn-of-the-century atmosphere around "the Diamond" which features a charming Bandstand that has come to symbolize Ligonier.
Ligonier Valley has been a source of constant attraction for many years. There is much to see and do in our midst or we offer a tranquil respite from the fast-paced tempo of living today.
The Ligonier Valley School District occupies seventy-five percent of the Allegheny Mountain section of Westmoreland County in Southwestern Pennsylvania. Located approximately fifty miles southeast of Pittsburgh and eighteen miles from Johnstown, the school district includes the Boroughs of Bolivar, Laurel Mountain, Ligonier, New Florence, and Seward and the Townships of Cook, Fairfield, Ligonier, and St. Clair.
Our schools are staffed with well-trained professionals committed to the constant improvement of student achievement. District priorities include instructional and curricular excellence; access to technology and training in its uses for students and faculty; low-student-teacher ratios, particularly in the primary grades; and parent involvement. The district provides special education and gifted education classes, services for students with limited English proficiency, and a variety of co-curricular activities and curricular options, including enrollment in College-in-High-School, Advanced Placement, and Eastern Westmoreland Area Career and Technology Center courses.
Partnerships with business and industry, community organizations, and local colleges and universities provide learning opportunities for students and staff alike. The district's professional education program keeps teachers abreast of research on learning, PA and US Department of Education initiatives, and advances in educational technology.
All five schools are newly renovated, with pleasant, welcoming facilities and ample resources for instructional technology, evidenced by an average student-computer ratio of 4 to 1. Laptops in mobile labs are available to middle and high school students.
