The Borough of Media is located in the central section of Delaware County in the Philadelphia Metropolitan Area. Media is situated approximately 12 miles west of downtown Philadelphia. An interlocking system of highways serves the residents of the Borough.

Media has always been a town rich in historical associations both national and local. Such well-known figures in American history as abolitionist Lucretia Mott, William Jennings Bryan, President Zachary Taylor and Mrs. Ida McKinley were connected in some manner with Media Borough. State Senator Thomas Cooper, Dr. Philip Jaisohn, Congressman John Broomall, historian George Smith, artist Charles Fussell and Minshall Painter all made their mark upon the character of Media and left it with a proud and honored legacy.

Residents proudly call Media "Everybody's Hometown." This is much more than a slogan — it also describes a very real state of mind. Visitors to Media frequently comment on the town's friendly atmosphere. Media is a place where it is customary to say "hello" as we pass each other on the sidewalk. Media is a town where every visitor is welcome and where new residents are accepted as they plant their roots here.

Media is the last suburban town in America with a trolley running down the main street. Our brick sidewalks and tree shaded streets encourage walking. Children can walk to any of three elementary schools in the Borough. The centrally located shopping district hosts a variety of shops, restaurants, and services; and the central location of the library, parks, houses of worship, and theatre place them all within walking distance for our residents.

During the last fifty years, Media has undergone many changes while still maintaining its small-town atmosphere. Many of Media’s Victorian homes, built over a century ago, are still beautifully maintained. These are not the only homes for sale in the area though, and for the discerning buyer there is a wide choice of homes, from Arts and Crafts, to contemporary, and with matching price tags. Media aims to please, and the homes here certainly do that!

Numerous beautiful buildings, many of which line State Street, were once home to the businesses that began in the late 1800’s. Thus, that past is kept alive today by a new generation of merchants and homeowners whose interest is in preserving and restoring the town’s legacy.

In the past twenty-five years, Media has seen a transformation in the types of businesses active in the town. This change is a result of the court system revising its schedule from quarterly to continuous sessions. Lawyers, psychologists and other professionals connected to the county court have located their offices in Media. The community has also seen revitalization and growth as many banks, investment firms, service businesses and corporations have followed suit, preferring the small-town atmosphere that has given Media its name as "Everybody’s Hometown".

Part of the revitalization of Media included the 1995 restoration and reopening of the Media Theatre, which was renamed the Media Theatre for the Performing Arts. The theatre attracts many visitors who enjoy the variety of shops and restaurants that the town has to offer. One of those restaurants is the Towne House.

Not only does Media have many fine restaurants, it also offers residents and visitors a variety of shops, including a hardware store, a menswear store, stationery stores, jewelry stores, gift and dress shops and many specialty establishments.

Today, as in years past, Media is home to many exciting events: the annual sidewalk sales, the art show, the food festival and many other events offered to both residents and visitors alike. This truly is "Everybody’s Hometown"!
