Shaler Township, Pennsylvania

Population: 29,757
Located in Allegheny County

The man for whom Shaler Township was named on its formation in March 1847 was Judge Charles Shaler, although the original intent had been to name it Marion Township. Suburban yet with a distinct rural character, Shaler Township has convenient access to major highways and interstates.

Students are the primary focus of the School District where, in partnership with families and community, the mission is to educate and prepare all students to become active, contributing members, of society by providing a challenging, innovative, educational program guided by an exceptional staff in a safe, positive, caring environment, all of which promote excellence.

Shaler Township is a great place for those who need to commute to Pittsburgh. And it is not limited to just commuting either! Pittsburgh is a hive of activity for culture, art, sports and recreation. Why not try out the Andy Warhol Museum, or Photo Antiquities, or how about the Wood Street Galleries?

The Downtown area of Pittsburgh offers diverse cultural entertainment. For film buffs, The Harris Theater offers alternative and foreign films. If visiting downtown, a must-see is the Strip District. Another multi-ethnic community, the Strip is lined with fresh produce markets, wholesale stores, restaurants and coffee shops that hustle and bustle all day long.

The local home market is flourishing with many choices in homes - from a multi-family home, to a snug duplex, a new condo, a restored Victorian or a custom-built home, the choice is yours. Homes here still tend to be very reasonably priced with the average home selling for $85,000.

With a distinct four seasons, activities in the winter here include building snowmen and sledding. The spring and summer months are enjoyed by planting gardens and even basking in the sunshine and fall time is punctuated with a splash of color throughout the region.

Shaler Township is a community with much on offer; and for those who are looking for a city that still has a small town feel to it, while offering the services bigger cities supply, then Shaler Township should be your first choice. With a good education system, and many wonderful people just waiting to welcome another new face to their community. For value for money, and friendliness, Shaler Township just can't be beat!
