Shippensburg, Pennsylvania

Shippensburg is located in the scenic Cumberland Valley of south-central Pennsylvania, just a short driving distance from many metropolitan centers. Shippensburg is the oldest community of the Cumberland Valley, and the second oldest west of the Susquehanna River in Pennsylvania. In July, 1730, 12 Scotch-Irish families came to the site of the present day Shippensburg and built cabin homes along Burd's Run. Shippensburg began as the western outpost of colonial settlement.

From Little League Boys and Girls championship ball teams to the Amazing Maize Maze Shippensburg continues to march forward to new adventures. Annually people from the area can take part in the Shippensburg Fair held the last full week of July and the Corn Festival [a main street event] the last Saturday of August, Dickens Days [leading into the Christmas season], and the Anchor dropping on New Year’s Eve. Parades, sporting events, festivals, and other activities fill out the year.

Shippensburg University is located just outside the borough limits in Shippensburg Township. It is a valuable asset to the area and provides access to many cultural and educational events. Borough residents’ benefit from events such as the Senior Games held each year at the university.

There are a number of new subdivisions offering new construction in almost every price range. Shippensburg also offers a good supply of single-family homes with a price range of $60,000 to $180,000 for a three bedroom of four bedroom home. With something with more elbow room, check out some of the newer subdivisions with homes selling for $200,000 and up.

Settled in the 1730's, Shippensburg offers a desirable balance of industry, agriculture, and education. Shippensburg was rated 27th in Norman Crampton's 1995 book, 100 Best Small Towns in America.

With a small town, family friendly feel, where kids know all the neighbors, and the streets are safe, Shippensburg is it! With an eclectic, academic feel, great locale and variable weather, look no further than this great city!
