West Conshohocken is located in Montgomery County northwest of Philadelphia on the Schuykill River. Conshohocken began as a lively manufacturing village in the 1850s. The city was recognized by the U.S. Congress for its contribution in World War I. During the war, more of Conshohocken's sons and daughters served in the U.S. Armed Forces than any other community in the country.
Conshohocken is part of the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania-New Jersey metro area. This region is also known as Valley Forge, which is where General George Washington forged his Continental Army into a fighting force, during the difficult winter encampment of 1777-78. Of all places associated with America's War for Independence, none conveys the suffering, sacrifice and ultimate triumph more than Valley Forge.
