Wyomissing, Pennsylvania

Population: 8,587
Located in Berks County

Just two miles east of the Reading city center, is the community of Wyomissing. This whole area started up because of railroads, and moved into industry. Railroads don't play such a large part of industry today, but Reading is still a city with manufacturing clout. This whole area has become a tourist haven as well.

Wyomissing has always been a place of innovation and ingenuity, reflected in our industrial heritage. As you settle here you'll hear some familiar names, names like Daniel Boone, the frontiersman, whose family comes from Berks County, alongside some not too familiar names like Weiser and Duryea.

Wyomissing sprung up as the need to move away from the center of Reading became greater. People were drawn to the Wyomissing area because of its proximity to the River, and also because it afforded people a chance to get away from the urban and trade it in for the suburban.

Today, Wyomissing is an eclectic mix of urban and suburban. This is also a small community of around 1,500 people. Homes in this neighborhood are considered for the most part, "Starter Homes" with the average price of a home in the region of $65,000. Young workers right out of high school or College find this area highly desirable.

Once work is done for the day though, it is not time to kick off your shoes, but time to head into the "big city"! There is so much to do here for families and singles alike! Whether you are 4 or 100, there is something to keep you occupied!

For the sports fans among you, come and see an exciting, physical brand of ice hockey at a Reading Royals game in Reading's new Sovereign Center. And afterwards, visit David Stein's Reading Comedy Outlet for some late night entertainment.

Soar the wild blue yonder in an open cockpit biplane. Try your luck at Golden Oaks or Willow Hollow, two of Berks County's challenging golf courses. Celebrate your victory with a lunch at Antique Airplane Restaurant. Give him a chance to redeem himself with a game of tag at Laser Quest, or clay and skeet shooting at Wing Pointe.

Find out what little girls' dreams are made of at Merritts Doll & Childhood Museums. Be sure to visit Wooden Bridge Dry Goods, followed by a snack at Stauffer's Cookie Outlet or enjoy high tea at the Garden Angel Tea Room.

Enjoy a trip through northern Berks County, which takes you through fertile countryside where 100 year-old German bank barns are decorated with unique folk art designs and hex signs. Discover the geological splendor of famous Crystal Cave. Feast at Haag's Hotel and Restaurant, where a hearty fare is sure to please.

So, with a distinct four seasons that lets you enjoy all that nature has to offer, with sports and culture at your fingertips, and work only a few minutes away, Wyomissing is definitely something not worth missing!
