The island is 9.5 square miles with a good highway system following most of its shoreline. Its small downtown has become increasingly popular with the addition of several restaurants. The south end of Beavertail Light at Beavertail State Park is a high rocky coast projecting into the Atlantic Ocean, and features some of the best surf cast fishing in the world. Board sailors and sport fishermen gather at Taylor Point Overlook and Potter Cove. Visitors can take a walking tour through pastures, hayfields and woodlands at Watson Farm. Snorkelers who are strong swimmers can spy tropical species of fish swept north by the Gulf Stream late summer and fall off Fort Wetherill State Park. Fort Getty Park features tidal pools and is a beachcomber's paradise.
