Lincoln, Rhode Island

With a population of 18,845 in 1990, Lincoln ranks 19 out of 39 communities in Rhode Island. This once-rural community has been changed by heavy manufacturing and an increasing population into a suburban community. Median age of its residents is 38; people 65 or older account for 18 percent of the population. Seventy-six percent of residents have earned a high school degree or more. Housing climbed to 7,281 units, a 15 percent increase from
1980.

Manufacturing is the principal source of income today. Jewelry, silverware and primary metals are the leading manufacturing groups, but recent years have shown a trend toward increased diversification, with the advent and growth of newer industries.

The Great Road (Route 123), which extends between the villages of Saylesville and Limerock, following the course of the Moshassuck River, presents in a stretch of over six-tenths of a mile a series of structures spanning the 17th to the 19th centuries that have hardly been interrupted by modern intrusions.

Lincoln Woods State Park offers everything from boating, fishing, swimming and bird watching to ice fishing and horse trails (BYO horse) summer and winter.
