Indian Land, South Carolina

Located in Lancaster County

The Indian Land Community is the northern section of Lancaster County, in an area often referred to as the Panhandle. It is bordered to the north by the North Carolina State Line (Charlotte City limits), to the west by York County, to the east by Union County, North Carolina, and to the south by the rest of Lancaster County.

Indian Land is rich in history and legends, from the birthplace of Andrew Jackson, revolutionary battles, and rich farmland to tales of the Tory Trading path, Camden to Charlotte highway, and the Catawba and Waxhaw Indian tribes.

The region was once rural farmland, cattle and horses roamed over green rolling pastures. Cotton and cornfields filled most open areas between beautiful woodlands made up of both evergreen and hardwood foliage. Today many ponds still dot the landscape; they used to provide water for animals, today they offer a cool refreshing swim on a hot summer afternoon, and stories of the "big one that got away".

Indian Land today is a unique community where housing developments, commercial properties, and rural country life coexist. Calling Indian Land home is easy. The variety of housing opportunities in virtually every price range and every setting allows you to choose your own lifestyle and still feel a part of the community. Whatever you choose, you have a promise of excellent quality for the housing dollar. A two bedroom duplex, with over 1,000 square feet of living space sells for around $102,000, while new construction can cost considerably more than that. Or perhaps you'd rather own a comfortable ranch with plenty of "kid-space." The average price for a ranch home with three bedrooms is $150,000.

The area abounds with landmarks of historical significance, and the moderate climate leads to an abundance of year round recreational, sporting and cultural activities. Spring begins in March and the famous South Carolina Grand Strand beaches, less than 3 hours away, are in full swing by mid-April. Summer brings a multitude of sports including boating on Lake Wateree or kayaking on the Catawba River. The autumn leaves are beautiful and winter is mild. It is usual to enjoy 60 to 70 degree days in the middle of January.

One of the other things that make this area desirable is the school district. Academics are strong, and are rated very high in this corner of the globe. Baseball, football, basketball, and soccer are available through the local high schools as well as a variety of other sports and extra-curricular activities.

Indian Land has such a great, mild climate, and is so spectacularly beautiful that it's no wonder the area is beginning to grow. Why nor come and be a part of that growth and a part of the future of this fine region?
