The Isle of Palms - With its seven miles of wide, pristine beach, is a great place to call home as well as a very popular vacation destination. The Island's summer season temperature averages 74 degrees from April to October with the average ocean temperature 81 degrees from May to September. Nestled on the northeast end of the island is the well known Wild Dunes resort. Wild Dunes is home to two-and-a-half miles of wide sandy beach, luxurious ocean front accommodations, and two 18 hole championship Fazio designed golf courses. The Links course ranks in the "World's Greatest 100" by Golf Digest.
The island's average temperature from November to March is 57 degrees. The summer season from April to October averages 74 degrees. The average ocean temperature from May to September is 81 degrees.
Sullivan's Island is a residential beach community located just south of the Isle of Palms with beautiful beaches and an impressive selection of private homes available for rent.
Things to do and see: With championship courses, beautiful beaches, choice accommodations and restaurants and shops galore, it's no wonder the greater Charleston area has become a top golfing destination. Two of Charleston's many fine golf course are at Wild Dunes. Other equally challenging courses are just a short ride off the islands. Charleston National, Dunes West, and Patriots Point all offer great golf at affordable rates.
For tennis enthusiasts, there are free public courts on both the Isle of Palms and Sullivan's Island, and some villa complexes have courts. Wild Dunes has 17 courts available for a fee. The East Islands are a swimmer's paradise! There are conveniently located beach access paths on both islands. The beachfront County Park offers parking, restrooms, and outdoor showers.
Biking: The islands' flat terrain and wide beaches are perfect for biking. Ride on the beach, along paved trails, or on quiet back roads. Bikers can challenge the 2+ mile bridge and bikeway crossing marshes and the waterway to the mainland.
Deep Sea Fishing -- Head off shore in search of blue marlin, sailfish, white marlin, tuna, wahoo, dolphin, barracuda and amberjack.
Inshore Fishing -- Sheltered coastal bays, inlets, creeks and rivers can yield flounder, trout, bass and tarpon. The marshes beyond the island are good for shrimping and crabbing
Boat Charters -- Boats charters and skiff rentals of all types and sizes are available.
Kayaking & Canoeing -- The Lowcountry is famous for its marshes, rivers, creeks, and waterways. There is no better way to get close to nature than exploring these areas by kayak or canoe. Nature tours are led by experienced local guides, and initial instruction is included.
Parasailing & Wave Runners -- There's more to Lowcountry water sports than swimming, fishing, and traditional boating. Experience the thrill of Parasailing or rent a Wave runner or jet ski.
