Population: 9,694 Located in Laurens County

The historic city of Laurens with its 9,916 residents serves as the county seat for Laurens County. The first record of the town being called Laurens, and not Laurensville, appears on a charter issued in 1873. Today, the area of the public square and most of the surrounding streets are officially recognized as the "Laurens Historic District," which has been placed in the National Register of Historic Places.

The city offers a variety of architectural styles from contemporary structures to gracious older homes and small farms. Laurens has many subdivisions, with prices varying from $15,000 to over $200,000. So there is definitely something to suit every budget here in Laurens.

Hunting opportunities are available on private lands or tracts leased by hunting clubs in the area. Skeet shooting is also available at Harris Springs Sporting Clays and Shooting Preserve. Clinton House Plantation offers bird and duck hunting, whitetail and turkey hunts.

Laurens County has two private 18-hole Golf courses - Musgrove Mill, an Arnold Palmer World Class Championship Course, chosen as one of the top modern courses in the US by Golf Week Magazine, and Lakeside Country Club, that also has swimming and tennis.

You might not think about traveling south to ski, but Laurens is just a short drive away from such beautiful mountain resorts as Sugar Mountain, Beech Mountain, and Ober Gatlinburg. Private and public lakes are numerous, including Lake Greenwood with over 200 miles of shoreline, and Lake Rabon, as well as the Enoree and Saluda Rivers which provide excellent fishing, boating. Myrtle Beach, Charleston, and Hilton Head make ideal weekend getaways.

There are twelve parks in the county, which offer recreational opportunities for children. The parks provide playground equipment and some offer picnic shelters, basketball courts, and ball fields. Laurens is also a short drive away from the Great Smokey Mountain National Park and the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Baseball, football, basketball, and soccer are available through the local high schools and Presbyterian College. Atlantic Coast and Southeastern Conference sports are within a one-hour drive at Clemson University and the University of South Carolina. Less than a one-hour drive Greenville offers minor league baseball and hockey.
