Located just 100 yards away, across beautiful Breach Inlet, is the Isle of Palms' sister island, Sullivan's Island. These two islands are themselves located right across the bay from Charleston.
Natives describe the difference between the two islands simply: Isle of Palms is "more of a resort island," while Sullivan's Island is "more of a beach town."
Though considered casual and unhurried, Sullivan's Island offers many things to do and sites to see. There is a quaint restaurant area, public tennis courts, and an old-fashioned community playground complete with a gazebo. Life is a little more relaxed on the islands. Sullivan's Island has a rich literary history that continues today. Edgar Allen Poe wrote his famous story, The Gold Bug, and a number of well known many poems while stationed on the Island.
