Foxborough, Massachusetts Foxborough is a growing community that is known to its residents as "the gem of Norfolk County". The town is the home of the New England Patriots National Football League franchise, which has performed at Foxborough Stadium on Route One since its opening in 1972. Foxborough Harness Raceway, adjacent to the stadium, is the only New England track providing for harness racing. This facility has been a fixture since the early 1940s. Foxborough has a small town community feeling. The town has been extremely successful in maintaining its small town image and rural characteristics while providing for significant growth. The 700-acre Foxborough State Forest and an additional 1,700 acres owned by the town help keep the rural, country setting in this community. Civic and sports organizations also play a major role in promoting and maintaining the strong sense of community spirit felt by town residents. Founder's Day, complete with a parade and high school band, a haunted house and pancake breakfast; events such as these are attended by thousands. This civic pride is instilled in new residents as well and is exemplified annually by the success of many fund raising events. Residents are particularly proud of the fact that Foxborough High School is renowned for its strong sports tradition with the football team a perennial contender for the Division Championship. No discussion of Foxboro history would be complete without recognizing the tremendous contribution of our town's very own National Football League Team, the 2002 & 2004 Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots . Beginning with the 1971 construction of Foxboro Stadium on Route 1, through the recent transformation of the facility into the state-of-the-art Gillette Stadium, the Patriots' presence, along with that of the New England Revolution Soccer Team, has brought big-city excitement to the heart of our small town and has put yet another sparkle into Foxboro's reputation as "The Gem of Norfolk County."
