Highland Village, Texas
Population: 7,000
Located in Denton County
In July 1998 D Magazine named Highland Village in the top five of all Metroplex towns. Keeping a “village feel” remains a focal point for the residents in this small Texas city bordered by Lewisville Lake and two larger, expanding communities. With its natural, rolling, wooded terrain, Highland Village, located in southern Denton County, occupies approximately 5.5 square miles. Once a lakeside hamlet, Highland Village is an affluent bedroom community with a current population of about 13,350. But residential isn't all that there is to this growing community. In November 1995 Minyard Properties opened a 60,000-sq. ft. grocery store along with a retail center. The flagship store features a food court, branch bank, coffee bar, dry cleaners drop-off, sausage factory, post office and other customer services. In addition to Minyards, Highland Village continues to see interest in commercial and retail businesses locating along its commercial corridor—F.M. 407. These include Jack-in-the-Box, Phase II of the Minyard retail center, a professional office complex, Iasis Sports & Education Center, Primrose Day Care Center, Walgreens Drug store, United Community Bank, two professional buildings on HV Road and several others in the discussion stage. Highland Shores, Texas Highland Shores is located in Highland Village and is the City’s largest sub-division. Highland Shores offers amenities such as tennis courts, community centers, jogging paths, etc., for its homeowners. Highland Shores is responsible for the majority of growth in the City within the past ten years and continues to grow with several phases yet to be built in the western portion of the City.
