Kent is centrally located in the Puget Sound region of Washington state, an area that has over two million people. It is the second largest city in South King County with a population of 84,560 and a geographic area of 29 square miles. Kent's population is projected to grow to 100,000 within the next few years, and it is anticipated that Kent will become the largest city in South King County.

Kent is home to a diverse economic base including corporate offices, retail, warehouse, industrial and manufacturing companies. Companies making their home in Kent include The Boeing Company, Flow International Corporation, Mikron Industires, Starbucks Roasting Plant, Oberto Sausage Company, and REI. The Kent Valley is home to a growing volume of class A wired office space and one of the largest warehouse and distribution centers in North America. With our ideal location as the hub of South King County, Kent connects to the greater Puget Sound via Interstate 5 and five other state highways. And Kent is now served by the Sounder Commuter Rail.

The Kent School District is the fourth largest district in the state. It has won many national awards for excellence. State tests score above the national median. Highline Community College is located in west Kent, and Green River Community College is located in Auburn, just southeast of Kent. An extension of Green River Community College is located in Kent and provides a variety of computer classes. Renton Technical College focuses on preparing students for careers in a variety of fields. Kent is also within easy commuting distance of the University of Washington, Seattle Pacific University and the University of Puget Sound.

The Kent Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department has been nationally recognized for Excellence in Parks and Recreation Management. There are 68 parks and open spaces comprised of 1,400 acres within the Kent Parks system. There is a full range of services and classes for youth, teens, adults and disabled citizens. Residents can also enjoy 27 holes of first class golf at the Riverbend Golf Complex.
