Welcome to Lake Country! Indian for "where the waters meet", the 42 square miles of Oconomowoc nestle between two large lakes, and is close to twenty more. At the turn-of -the-century, this elegant city was a popular resort for wealthy industrialists from Chicago and Milwaukee, six United States Presidents, and moneyed people from throughout the Midwest. Many of their palatial homes still stand on lovely lakefront parcels. Although its golden era has passed, Oconomowoc now attracts year-'round residents who enjoy the beauty of the lakes and gently rolling terrain and can swim, sale or power boat, fish, horseback ride, cross-country or downhill ski, and snowmobile to their heart's content. The median income is $57,705. Schools are excellent and are served by the Oconomowoc Area School District. It is an easy drive to the Brookfield and Waukesha commercial centers and about twenty minutes further to downtown Milwaukee.
