I-90 is the major highway with two exits into Sparta.

We have the LaCrosse River and Beaver Creek running though our community, which offer canoeing and kayaking. A major summer festival is Butterfest, held the second weekend of June each year. Biking the trails is the major "tourist attraction" we offer. We have the Deke Slayton Memorial Space and Bike Museum in the City...Deke Slayton, a hometown guy was one of the original seven Mercury astronauts and commanded the Soyouz Space Mission. The bicycle exhibit showcases the evolution of biking and contains several rare and antique bikes. In the Sparta area, we enjoy the crafts and skills of a large Amish settlement. A Railroad and Doll Museum located north of Sparta rounds out our visitor offering.

For people relocating here, we offer a small town atmosphere with a progressive and forward-thinking city government. Our downtown is a historic district and many National Historic properties are in Sparta, including a Carnegie Library. We recently completed a high school addition and built a new middle school. Our parks and recreation facilities are top rate and includes a swimming pool and numerous ball fields. The Sparta Golf Course is known as one of the best municipal-owned golf courses in the state.
