Abilene is famous for its friendly, helpful people and is known as a great place to raise a family. We are a mid-sized city with a friendly "know-your-neighbors" flavor of a small town. Located in west central Texas, 183 miles west of Dallas, Abilene is home to Dyess Air Force Base, home of the B-1 bomber and C-130 transport planes. Abilene is at the hub of the Texas Midwest Network and of a diversified economy which includes manufacturing, retail trade, farming and ranching, medical care and petroleum.

Every year, Abilene is host to a variety of community events and activities, more then likely centering around a western theme. Proud of it's western heritage and lifestyle, Abilene has a plethora of true 'Texan' filling it's events calendar. The annual Western Heritage Classic and the Winter Spectacular Cutting Horse are both excellent examples of the large country/western activities that one can partake in Abilene, 'Where the West lives'!
