Population: 4,070 Located in Kaufman County

Forney has a relaxed small-town atmosphere with a blend of old and new. The city is located in the northwest corner of Kaufman County on U.S. Highway 80 to the north and Interstate 20 to the south side of town. It is only 20 minutes east of downtown Dallas along the East Fork of the Trinity River.

Known as the "Antique Capital of Texas", Forney offers dozens of antique stores, both wholesale and retail with impressive selections of American and European items! The antique industry began in 1969 and has grown significantly, attracting hundreds of customers each week.

This area was first settled in 1947 by Sallie Daugherty and her four sons who named it Union Hill. Later it was known as Lone Elm. More settlers came after the Civil War and by the late 1860's, the area was established as a trading center called the Village of Brooklyn. The town began to boom after the railroad arrived, and the residents needed a Post Office. The name was submitted, but another town with the same name already existed. Forney was then accepted as the new village name after John Wein Forney, a director for the railroad.

Today, Forney is a great place to live and visit. It has excellent schools, convenient shopping and plenty of recreational opportunities. Housing choices range from new construction to beautiful historic homes. An abundance of home sites are available high on a ridge overlooking the Trinity River and Dallas skyline. Many homes are built on acreage and several residents choose to have livestock such as horses and cattle. So come to the country and live the simpler life in Forney, Texas!
