In 1883 John A. Warren purchased approximately 40 acres called Hewitt for $4911.64 from George A. Hewitt. Hewitt was an employee of the Missouri, Kansas and Texas (KATY) Railroad and founded the town around the railroad in 1882.
During the following decades, the community flourished on farming and agriculture during the days when "cotton was king." Hewitt was a slowly but steadily growing community until the late 1970's, when the population exploded. The steady upward growth that continued for more than a century gave way to a 700 percent population boom. In 1890, 60 residents called Hewitt home, with approximately 11,944 finding the town the place to be today.
The City of Hewitt is a wonderful place to live or operate a business. The City has great schools, nice neighborhoods and a positive spirit. Hewitt residents enjoy all the amenities of a large city, while still maintaining the comforts of a small town.
