Population: 13,000 Located in Harris County

Located in the northeast quadrant of the Houston metropolitan area, just 21 miles from downtown on Highway 59, the greater Humble area includes Atascocita, the City of Humble, Kingwood, and Spring, all of which are currently experiencing robust population and economic growth.

Encompassing nearly 100 square miles of land in northeast Harris County, the area is largely forested. Due to its natural beauty, the recreation of Lake Houston and the San Jacinto River, the proximity of Bush Intercontinental Airport and the Port of Houston, and the quality of its many subdivisions, the area has proven to be a strong attraction to newcomers.

What began as a small community located near the river has now blossomed into an ever-widening area of prosperous commerce and multi-community growth. The housing market is healthy as developers find attractive ways for homeowners to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city into the wooded reaches of the Humble area.

Deerbrook Mall, which opened in 1983, has recently updated and remodeled offering shoppers 140 plus stores to shop. Many new retail establishments have been added to the growing Humble economic landscape. They include Super Target, Super Walmart, Half Price Books, and the Candy Bouquet, to name just a few.

In downtown Humble, small businesses owners benefit from the nostalgic and charming Main Street area. Newly relocated Eweniquely Woolen, a rug, craft, and gift shop, provides one-of-a-kind wool rugs. Chez Nous offers fine dining right in the heart of old town Humble.

Humble Independent School District (HISD) began more than 100 years ago as a one-room schoolhouse with 12 students, a teacher and a four-month school term. Today, with 31 campuses and 26,800 students, Humble ISD is nationally recognized for the outstanding education it offers to students. Humble Independent School District (HISD) has 2 high schools, 5 junior high schools, and 17 elementary schools that serve 23,000 students. During the 1997-98 school year Humble ISD students' average score was 528 on Verbal and 533 on math which is above the national average. The school district is in the process of purchasing $10.0 million in modern computers over the next two years to put computers in every classroom. There are several private/parochial schools in the area also.

The district is fortunate to have many parents who want to be involved in their children's education and extracurricular activities. Volunteers can be found at every school, performing tasks that free teachers to devote more time to their students.

One of the best benefits of life in this region is the natural alliance with the great outdoors. Parks, hiking/biking trails, nature areas and water resources permeate the lifestyles of most Humble area residents. Situated on Lake Houston, the area boasts one of the finest fishing and recreational regions in Texas, offering excellent camping, boating, skiing and fishing facilities. Most area subdivisions feature their own parks and swimming pools, and youth sports programs are hugely supported. Rounding out the recreational offerings is an outstanding array of local golf courses including world-class tournament courses, challenging professional courses, executive three-pars, a golf instructional school, youth programs, driving ranges, and night golfing.

Combine all of this with the year-round temperate climate, and the area becomes a recreational utopia. To top it all off, Harris County offers several unique parks to entice area residents.

The Humble area is rich with many beautiful and challenging golf courses. Cypresswood Golf Club is the most prominent daily fee golf complex in the southern U.S. Situated on over 800 acres of rolling, heavily wooded terrain along the confluence of Spring and Cypress creeks, this 54-hole upscale golf facility offers three unique golf experiences and the finest playing conditions.

With all this and so much more, one can readily see why Humble is one of the fastest growing areas in the greater Houston area! Come and see why Humble is proud of being Humble!
