Texas Real Estate & Relocation Guide
Pflugerville, Texas
Population: 47,417
Located in Travis County
Somewhere between the glass and chrome of the high-rise and the verdant, fertile fields, lies the heart of the greater Pflugerville region. Pflugerville offers a mild climate with 300 sunny days each year, affordable housing, low cost of living, clean air, and beautiful scenic vistas. This comfortable blend of old and new, past and present, rural and urban, makes this community the one of the fastest-growing cities in Texas.
There are many reasons why Pflugerville is growing so quickly. One is
the City's perfect location, between Austin and Round Rock. First
settled in the 1840's, the rolling hills and prairies of Pflugerville
are considered some of the most desirable areas for retail, commercial
and light industrial development in the Greater Austin area. Another
reason is accessibility. Pflugerville is just 20 minutes from
Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, and with two new state
highways traversing the city, Pflugerville will soon be an essential
hub for people making their way in and around Central Texas. Perhaps
most importantly, Pflugerville is committed to families. Located
minutes from technology giants Dell, Samsung, Motorola and IBM, and
from the State offices in downtown Austin, the City attracts a highly
educated population in search of quality housing, excellent schools
and a safe, healthy environment.
Pflugerville has evolved from its agrarian roots into a booming
bedroom community; its future is anticipated to include the
diversified housing stock characteristic of a maturing city. Nearly
three quarters of Pflugerville residents live within a quarter-mile—an
easy walk--of a park. Senior housing opportunities are also on the
rise in Pflugerville. And housing values have remained solid.
No single factor has been more important to Pflugerville's rapid
growth than the excellence of the Pflugerville Independent School
District. Pflugerville is widely recognized as having one of the best
public school systems in Central Texas. The mission of the District is
to provide a quality education with a commitment to excellence by
facilitating learning in a safe and nurturing environment.
Pflugerville is also convenient located near many excellent and
accredited universities and colleges for first degrees, advanced
degrees and continuing education, including the University of Texas at
Austin, Texas State University's Round Rock campus, St. Edward's
University, Southwestern University, Concordia University and
Huston-Tillotson University.
The City hosts a wide variety of community events throughout the year,
including Deutschen Pfest, celebrating our German heritage, the
Pflugerville Pfirecracker Pfestival, and the Pflugerville Pfall Chili
Pfest. The City has 17 developed parks and 15 undeveloped parcels of
parkland. Over 18 miles of trails link various neighborhoods with
parks and schools. In 2008, the United States Department of the
Interior National Park Service designated the Heritage Trail Loop in
Pfllugerville as a National Recreation Trail in the National Trails
System. Lake Pflugerville, primarily developed to ensure a water
supply, is becoming a recreation center with a hike and bike trail,
fishing docks and other amenities.
Central Texas is well known for its low crime and neighborly people.
Texas has no personal state income tax, and Pflugerville's taxes are
among the lowest in the state for cities our size. The year 2008 was
the fifth year in a row that our City Council lowered the city tax
rate. The current population of Pflugerville is 46,000. With good
schools and an easy commute to Austin or Round Rock, Pflugerville is a
great place to come home to.
