Rockwall is named for a mysterious underground stone formation. Residents chose the town name because of a discovery of a stonewall that lay beneath the surface of the town site. It appears to encircle the town, and efforts are underway to determine its origin. Rockwall on the Lake is the perfect place in the heart of North Texas to spend a weekend or a lifetime. This town has been in existence for 150 years, but it was in the 1970s and 1980s that the population really increased, influenced by business opportunities in nearby Dallas and the construction of Lake Ray Hubbard.

By the early 1990s it reported 10,486 residents and 257 businesses. At this time the town included plants that produced aluminum, leather goods, and steel products. Also, in recent years Rockwall has become known as a marriage Mecca, because of the ease with which a marriage license can be obtained there!

An active community, Rockwall offers great leisure-time activities such as hometown holiday festivals and arts and crafts fairs. The Hubbard Chamber Music Series concerts are held throughout the year. From Mozart to mandolins, their offerings delight. For live theater, the Rockwall Community Playhouse offers four productions a year. Past performances have included Love Letters, The Miracle Worker and I Hate Hamlet.
