Often referred to as West University or West U, most of the town's streets are referenced after US colleges and universities. Neighborhoods are sprinkled with parks and streets are lined with trees. Between Rice University and West University Place is The Village, one of Houston's first shopping districts. More than 350 stores make up The Village, including over 60 restaurants. The 16-block area has an eclectic mix of unique shops and designer boutiques. Housing West University consists of around 26 subdivisions, including: Academy, Belle Court, Bissonnet Place, College Court Place, College Park, Collegeview, Colonial Terrace, Cunningham Terrace, Evanston, Fairhaven, Kent Place, Krenzler Courts, Matthews Place, Monticello, Pemberton, Pershing Place, Preston Place, Quenby Court, Rice Court, Sunset Terrace, and Virgina Court. Education West University is home to only one private school and one preschool within the city limits - St. Mark's Episcopal School (k-8) and Beehive Preschool.
