Wimberley is a rural town located among the giant cypress trees along Cypress Creek and the Blanco River, just a few miles north of the famed San Marco region, about 45 minutes southwest of Austin and 60 minutes northeast of San Antonio.

The Texas Hill Country is famous for its beautiful live oak trees, the hills, the winding roads and the beautiful scenery. It is a popular vacation spot for Texans. Wimberley is one of the prettiest areas of the Hill Country and has become one of the most popular locations for tourists.

Many nature activities are available around Wimberley. From horseback riding, canoeing, rafting, hiking, to bird watching, the choices are endless. Enjoy the clear blue water of the Blanco River, or go tubing down the Guadalupe River. Canyon Lake is only a short distance away for boating and fishing.

Local festivals offering live music as well as the local art shows are all popular with the tourists. Other events include the annual 4th of July Rodeo, Funfest, Hillaceous Bike Race and many more. Lance Armstrong trains for the Tour De France amongst the hills and dales of this lovely region of South Texas.

Folks love to come to the Wimberley Market Days the first Saturday of each month from April to December. The Market Day started in 1964 and has now grown to more than 450 booths showing crafts, baked goods, jewelry, clothing, books and just about anything else that a tourist or bargain shopper may be looking for. People come from all over Texas to experience this unique event.

Wimberley is full of unique shops that offer traditional and not-so-traditional art and wares. Although the primary shopping areas are clustered around the "Square" and "Olde Towne Plaza", there are also shops sprinkled throughout other areas, including San Marco with the outlet mall, located right on I35.

Many rural towns had outdoor movie theatres years ago, and Wimberley is one of the few cities to still have one. The Corral Theatre features first run movies. You can even bring your own chair. If your taste runs to live theatre, try the EmilyAnn Theatre or Wimberley Players for year round theatrical events.

Take a step back in time to an 1880's Pioneer Town at the 7A Ranch Resort. Wimberley also offers many unique art galleries, including Wimberley Glass Works, with glass blowing demonstrations seven days a week.

Take a leisurely stroll through a working vineyard and taste some fabulous Texas Hill Country wines at Driftwood Vineyards. Pick your own blackberries while touring a working olive orchard at the Bella Vista Ranch. Get your family photographs taken while cutting your own lavender at the Rough Creek Lavender Fields.

Many of the resorts and camps around town have Blanco River access, pools and hiking trails. Take a dip in one of our cool, crystal clear rivers or streams at the Texas Historical Swimming Hole at the Cypress Falls Lodge.

Homes in this region tend to run a little higher than average, as most of them are built with the adage of Texas in mind, "Bigger is better"! Most of the homes are built on a few acres, and tend to be sprawling with their own swimming pools, stables and other modern amenities. It is possible to find the home of your dreams for around $290,000 although most homes in the area sell for $320,000 and up.

For those who need to commute, Austin, San Marco and even San Antonio are manageable distances, here in a state where an hour's drive is considered 'going round the corner'. So, if you're looking for wide-open spaces, plenty of hills, and water, if you want a slice of heaven now, come to where "Heaven and hill hold hands."
