Farmington, Utah
Population: 11,175 Located in Davis County
Farmington is a small town of 12,000 people, but don't let the size deceive you. It is home to the famous Lagoon Lake Park, founded in 1886. Farmington is centrally located in Davis County with some of the most beautiful scenery to be found anywhere in Northern Utah. Located at the base of the beautiful Wasatch Mountains, Farmington offers scenic back ways, high mountain camping and trails. Within one hour of Davis County are nationally renowned ski areas for winter sports. Many are sites for the 2002 Winter Olympics. These nearby mountains provide summer activities including fishing, hiking, and backpacking, boating and camping. Recreation: Farmington has something for everyone. Play golf at one of many fine golf courses, catch a thrill at Lagoon Amusement Park and Pioneer Village, get wet at Cherry Hill Resort and Lagoon-A-Beach. Enjoy the museums and theaters. Row boating, swimming, and, of course, dancing are the attractions that brought the crowds on the Bamberger Railway. In 1906 a new Merry-Go-Round with 45 hand-carved horses was delivered. That same Merry-Go-Round is still in operation today. Because of a fire in 1953 a new Lagoon was built: A Lagoon with new rides like the Speedway, the Sky Coasters, a double-loop Coaster, and more recently a rapid river ride, "Rattlesnake Rapids". The youngsters were not forgotten with the creation of Mother Goose Land. A restaurant with the best fried chicken in Utah draws guests from all over the West. A Showboat cruises Lagoon Lake in search of an elusive dragon, while the Lake Park Streamliner circles on the shore. Education: Students attend Farmington Elementary School, Farmington Junior High and feed into Davis County High Schools. The number of students per teacher ranges from 23 in elementary school to 34 in high school. Farmington prides itself on its peaceful schools and high standardized test results. Farmington's motto is that whatever your definition for enjoyment is, you can find it in Farmington, "Gateway to the Great Salt Lake".
