Herriman is located south-west of Salt Lake City, and is considered part of the greater Salt Lake City region. Herriman is a great place to call home, offering its residents unlimited recreational opportunities, a bustling economy, excellent schools, warm hospitality and the "Greatest Snow on Earth." The area features a number of world-class ski resorts as well as historic sites, theaters, fine restaurants, art galleries and national parks.

Herriman provides residents with all the amenities of a major metropolitan area, yet has retained the friendliness of a small, western city. Several colleges and universities - including the University of Utah - are available for those who wish to attain a degree in higher education.

Surrounded by the Wasatch Mountains to the east and the Oquirrhs to the west, Herriman offers fun for the entire family including skiing, hiking, biking, rock climbing, fishing, hunting and river rafting. Canyons are filled with wild flowers, glistening waterfalls and incredible foliage when winter turns to spring.

When it comes to recreation, Herriman is a year-round destination. It is recognized as one of North America's finest ski destinations. Ten major ski resorts are located in the area with more than 100 ski lifts, seven cross-country areas and the nation's only recreational ski jumping complex.

The Great Salt Lake, around which many of the activities center - was created from prehistoric Lake Bonneville, which 10,000 to 30,000 years ago covered some 20,000 square miles of land in what is now Utah, Nevada and Idaho. Four rivers and numerous streams empty into the Great Salt Lake carrying large amounts of dissolved minerals. The lake has no outlet, so these minerals are trapped. The resulting high salinity rate ranges from 9% to 28% as compared to 3% salinity in the world's oceans. Sunsets over the Great Salt Lake are breathtaking. Amazing red, orange, lavender and magenta hues slowly dissolve in the nighttime sky. The Great Salt Lake is a bird watcher's paradise with numerous species feeding on the lake's brine shrimp. For boaters, there is a marina with 300 slips available as well as camping facilities.

Utah is without doubt one of the most beautiful states in the country, and the community of Herriman is right in the heart of that beauty. With more recreational opportunities than anywhere outside of Alaska, Herriman has something for everyone!
