Sunset, Utah
Population: 5,204
Located in Davis County
Sunset is actually an outgrowth of nearby Clinton. The name Sunset was used because the community was set up on an elevated location on a sand ridge, giving the residents a clear view of the Lake. Whenever residents use the term "the Lake" they mean the Great Salt Lake. The Great Salt Lake is what remains of the once huge ice-age Lake Bonneville. The remaining lake, only 35' at its deepest, fluctuates greatly from year to year depending on the snow run-off. A drop of ca. 9' results in the loss of almost 50% of its surface area. It is the largest U.S. lake west of the Mississippi. The area today is a mixture of farming, housing and commercial areas. Sunset is growing quickly, yet there is a strong desire to preserve and maintain the traditional rural atmosphere. The homes here are dispersed and there is no central business area. The weather gives wonderful opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. The spring and summer temperature's stay in the 70's - 80's although sometimes they will reach the low 90's in August, and the mercury stays in the mid to high 30's during the winter months. This makes for wonderful recreation. Golf, mountain biking, hiking and camping are wonderful recreational activities that can be enjoyed for a good part of the year. If skiing is your choice of sport, both Powder Mountain and Snow Basin are wonderful ski areas located nearby. New homes are being added to Sunset and Clinton all the time. You can purchase a snug bungalow starting at $115,000 or choose a new larger home starting in the low $130,000's. The view from these homes is simply out of this world as Utah's mountainous landscape is unparalleled for rugged beauty. Sunset was so called because of the beauty of this region, and the view of the setting sun at the end of the day. Little has changed since the town first received its name; and if you want to see the best sunsets, Sunset is the place to be!
