Tooele has been through many transformations, but the one that brought the most change happened in the early 1900's, when it became an industrialized city. The transformation was boosted by the construction of railroads and the opening of the International Smelting and Refining Company, east of Tooele. Families from the Balkans, Italy, Greece, and Asia Minor lived in this area and formed their own community.

The outbreak of World War II brought the establishment of military bases in the area that strengthened the nation's defense, boosted the local economy, and created a dramatic change in Tooele's history. Tooele's heritage was further enriched in the 1950's and 1960's as many Hispanic families moved to the area.

Part of the land on which those military bases were located has been handed over to the city of Tooele, and has provided Tooele with excellent economic opportunities. Tooele stands at the brink of growing into a regional trade center during the upcoming years.

One of the special features of Tooele is its rural feel, and this is maintained by having parks in close proximity to every single home in the city limits. Take a step out your back door and you aren't very far away from one of Tooele's Park. From quiet solitude in a small park to jogging, from skating to swimming, you aren't far away from activity. One of Tooele's parks has a walkway connecting the park to the local neighborhood.

Like to swim? The Pratt Aquatic Center has it all. Not only is it the newest and most popular swimming attraction, the Center has received state and national attention as being one of the best aquatic centers ever built. In addition to a full size pool complete with a regular size and high diving board, it has an eight-lane competition lap pool (with plenty of seating to watch the competitions). Adults and kids both love the leisure pool, which features a thrilling water slide. If you are a bit shy about the water, the pool even features a graded children's wading pool that has gentle sloping. It's a great way for adults and children to begin water adventures.

The weather gives wonderful opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. The spring and summer temperature's stay in the 70's - 80's although sometimes they will reach the low 90's in August, and the mercury stays in the mid to high 30's during the winter months. This makes for wonderful recreation. Golf, mountain biking, hiking and camping are wonderful recreational activities that can be enjoyed for a good part of the year.
