Today, Washington City is a thriving city, and with the influx of retired people who have discovered it to be a very attractive and warm place to spend winters, the city has increased in size. It is one of the cities of Southern Utah that has exploded with new population growth in the past decade. Amenities have kept up with the growth. The City has a very challenging professional golf course that draws players from all over the West because of its design and difficulty. There are two beautiful parks in the city, one recently finished, for the use of its citizens. Other parks are on the drawing boards to insure the citizenry there will be adequate parks for families to enjoy. A new city office building has been designed to fit the decor to the old city, and has recently been completed. A municipal swimming pool and ballparks are part of the amenities of the city. Many new homes have been constructed to supply the need for all persons. Approximately 90 percent of the population is Mormon. Washington has become a Mecca for "snowbirds," people who come south for the winter and people who move here from California, northern Utah, and other areas to retire and escape the smog and traffic. There are presently three recreation vehicle parks in Washington. Campers can enjoy tranquil solitude and sunsets while swimmers and sunbathers enjoy the turquoise waters and sandy beaches the Great Salt Lakes provides. During the winter months, ice skaters take pleasure from the Olympic sized ice rink provided by the park. It seems everywhere you turn; there is a breathtaking view of the mountains. This of course makes for wonderful outdoor recreation, especially if you enjoy skiing, mountain biking, and hiking! Many housing options are available. A cozy, single-family home starts at about $100,000, and there are also many retirement communities available that sell for considerably less. Condo's are a popular choice in the town too, and cost less than houses.
