Located in Vermont's beautiful Lake Champlain region, Essex Junction offers village charm with the many brick store fronts and a collection of Victorian style homes. It also has several suburban style neighborhoods, shopping and its own library. It has a well established recreational department and facilities which include outdoor municipal swimming pool, parks and bike path. Essex Junction is the junction of the famous five corners (where 5 state highways converge) and the railroad station which provides rail and passenger service through Amtrak, Vermont Railway and Central Vermont Railway. In addition, Essex Junction is home to IBM, Vermont's largest private employer. IBM now employs approximately 6,000 - many of whom live in the community. Essex Junction has a combined high school and regional vocational center. The latter offers a variety of programs in vocational-technical education training to the area's students, adults and employers. This village boasts the Champlain Valley Fairgrounds that is the home of Vermont's largest fair, antique, dog and car shows and other interesting activities.
