Thetford is located on the Vermont side of the Connecticut River, approximately halfway between the Canadian province of Quebec and the American State of Massachusetts. The town of Thetford consists of six smaller villages (Thetford Hill, East Thetford, North Thetford, Thetford Center, Union Village and Post Mills). Hills and rivers naturally divide the villages, although they have always functioned as a single town. Approximately 2900 people live in Thetford, mostly on side roads with distance between houses. There is no central street, avenue, or anything. There are no typical or famous stores, and there are definitely no malls. You have seen the pictures of my neighbors...basically; the whole town is like that. There are gas stations and SMALL grocery stores, but nothing else. In or within 15 minutes, you can downhill and cross-country ski, ice-skate, snowboard, waterski, swim, sail, bike, hike, play tennis, go rafting, canoeing, hunting, fishing. For a change of pace, residents can choose to go to Thetford State Park for camping. The community rallies around school baseball, basketball, soccer, softball, skiing, and cross-country (running) teams, and the community has access to all the school resources, fields, gyms, and tracks. Thetford is a very rural town and produces its own maple syrup, among other things. There are some dairy farms, and also some logging. Many residents work in the larger towns that are nearby such as Lebanon and Hanover, New Hampshire. The advantage to living in Thetford is the price of houses, because most of the area is still rural, houses are spread far apart and are very reasonably priced. Privacy is the order of the day here, and most homes are built on a few acres of land. So, if you are looking for a place to call home, and to hang your hat, if you're looking for a place that still offers a little of the yesteryear charm, and allows you to escape from the pace of the big city, Thetford is it!
