One of Williston's earliest and most famous settlers was Thomas Chittenden - Vermont's first governor. Colonel Chittenden first discovered the area on an expedition up the Winooksi River, and built his first home overlooking that same river.

Today, dairy farming along with a strong commercial and industrial base remain the heart of the town's local economy. Williston's close proximity to Interstate 89 and the Burlington International Airport make it a desirable as well as a convenient location for numerous businesses.

This town offers a wide variety of public recreational facilities which include the Williston Community Park, Lake Iroquios Beach, fishing access and a bike path. At the Catamount Family Center, hiking, biking and walking trails are open from spring through fall months. During the winter, the trails are groomed for cross country skiing and a skating rink is available. Golfers can enjoy the 18 hole course at the Williston Country Club or practice their swing at the Williston Driving Range.
