EVERYTHING EASTERN SHORE

Come to the Eastern Shore of Virginia, "the land between two waters". Our quiet, unspoiled region is a wonderful destination for a day-trip or for the rest of your life. Hundreds of miles of Atlantic Ocean and Chesapeake Bay shoreline provide a wealth of recreational opportunities for fishermen, boaters and beach lovers. Dozens of picturesque little towns and villages are filled with Colonial and Victorian homes and storefronts.

The Eastern Shore of Virginia offers peace in its rich natural settings, colorful waterfowl, rustic workboats, and scenic islands where the pirate Blackbeard once sought refuge. But don't let the quiet fool you--there's a lot to do year 'round and a vibrant community supported by excellent resources and facilities.

REAL ESTATE
The small-town lifestyle is Cape Charles and the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Our towns have traditional downtowns with shops, restaurants and entertainment within walking distance of the residences. Many of the homes are historic Victorian or colonial-era construction. A multitude of waterfront homes and building sites are available. And real estate prices are low compared to other regions.

Housing of every type and price range is an important part of the Eastern Shore's apparel providing a slowly growing population with convenient, attractive and affordable places to live.

THINGS TO DO
The eastern Shore is surrounded by the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, providing wonderful opportunities for recreation on the water. Favorite outdoor activities include boating, crabbing, water skiing, canoeing, sailing, hiking, biking, bird watching and camping. Access to the water is provided by public boat ramps.

On the Atlantic Ocean side of the Eastern Shore is a chain of coastal barrier islands. The islands and their undeveloped beaches are accessible by boat, or by car at Assateague Island National Seashore. Assateague Island National Seashore offers life guarded beaches, clamming, crabbing, hiking, baking, birding, and camping.

Kiptopeke State Park and the Eastern Shore National Wildlife Refuge are located on the southern portion of the Shore. Kiptopeke State Park, a waterfront park located on the Bay, offers camping, swimming, picnicking, nature trails, a fishing pier, and a small boat anchorage. Eastern Shore Wildlife Refuge has a fantastic visitors center, nature trails, and an observation platform overlooking Smith Island and the Ocean.

Numerous festivals and special events take place on the shore, including the famous Chincoteague Pony Swim and Auction in July and the popular Harvest Fest each October.

SPORTING
The silhouette of a small boat outlined against the distant horizon evokes thoughts of a life filled with romance and adventure. Escaping the routines of daily life by sailing away on a boat is a common fantasy. But here on the Eastern Shore, fantasies come true. The spray of salt water on your skin, gentle sea breezes, and simple, carefree living can be your reality.

The Eastern Shore is the perfect backdrop for a variety of sport enthusiasts. If fishing is your passion, your options along the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean should be enough to send you reeling. Golfers can find play to suit their game and style on the Eastern Shore's championship courses. Whether you're an athletic adventurer or just enjoy the outdoors, you should be able to find exactly what you want - and more!
