Langley AFB, Virginia Langley is internationally renowned as 'the base' of bases. Ask anyone in the world to name an American base and 90% of the time, Langley is the first word out of their mouths! Langley Air Force Base is located right on the other side of the river from Washington D.C. making it one of the most centrally located Air Force Bases in the nation. Home to the 1st Fighter Wing Division, whose motto is "Setting the Standard in Air Supremacy", Langley is the premier base for fighters and is a personal favorite for people to come and see. Langley is also a great place to live because of all the fun things in and around the region, from Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, and WaterCountry USA, to historical Williamsburg and Yorktown. Only 60 minutes away are the Blue Ridge Mountains. There are numerous world-class golf courses, parks, nature preserves, recreation centers and sports facilities including Great Falls National Park, Marie Butler Leven Preserve, Riverbend Park and Nature Center, Scotts Run Nature Preserve, Lake Fairfax Park, Lewinsville Park, Spring Hill Park and Recreation Center, Linway Terrace Park, and Meadowlark Gardens Regional Park. Great Falls National Park, a site that is part of the George Washington Memorial Parkway, is an 800-acre park located along the Potomac River 14 miles upriver from Washington D.C. The park is known for two things, its scenic beauty at the head of Potomac River fall line and the historic Patowmack Canal. The park offers 15 miles of trails, five of which are multiple-use trails that include opportunities for mountain biking and horseback riding. At its Great Falls, the Potomac River plunges seventy-six feet through a deep gorge.
