A hamlet of several hundred people, Acme lies along State Route 9 in the Nooksack River’s South Fork Valley between the northern Cascade Mountains and Lake Whatcom. The community has its own post office and elementary school (part of the Mount Baker School District). Plenty of fishing and hiking opportunities are nearby. Acme is known as a scenic area with a number of camping opportunities along Lake Whatcom, including the Lake Whatcom Railroad. Skiers and snowboarders are only an hour from Mt. Baker. Residents enjoy the quiet way of life here, but can find plenty of stores, healthcare specialists and professional services to the south in Sedro-Woolley (16 miles) and Burlington (20 miles).

Acme residents also are close to the amenities and services of Bellingham, just 24 miles to the northwest. Bellingham is served by Amtrak and multiple airlines, including Delta Airlines, Horizon Air and Allegiant Air.

Bellingham’s educational institutions include Western Washington University, which has approximately 13,000 full- and part-time students. For healthcare needs, residents can choose from a number of local family-care providers and utilize the resources of Bellingham’s St. Joseph Hospital, a leader in the care of heart, cancer and senior patients.
