The unincorporated rural communities of Bow, Edison and Bayview all are located near Padilla Bay in western Skagit County.

Residents enjoy the quiet pace of life here, but they’re just 10 minutes west of Interstate 5, as well as local stores and shopping centers in Burlington and Mount Vernon.

Recreational boaters have access to the scenic San Juan Islands via marinas in nearby La Conner and Anacortes. If you don’t have a boat, ferries head to the islands daily from Anacortes.

Bay View State Park is a 25-acre camping park with 1,285 feet of saltwater shoreline on Padilla Bay. Bird watching, beachcombing, clamming, crabbing and much more are popular activities at the park. Over 11,000 acres of Padilla Bay are designated as a National Estuarine Sanctuary. Breazeale Padilla Bay Interpretive Center is located a half-mile north of the park.

Plenty of freshwater and saltwater fishing, hunting and hiking opportunities are available in the area. Golfers can try their luck at a number of nearby courses, including the challenging 27-hole Avalon Golf Course in Burlington and Eaglemount Golf Course in Mount Vernon. Skiers and snowboarders are less than two hours away from the Mount Baker Ski Area, which typically has the most snowfall and longest ski season in the state, and several other ski areas.

The Mt. Baker Ranger Station in nearby Sedro-Woolley is a source of information for travelers, hikers and campers heading to the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest and North Cascades National Park. The station has many guidebooks and detailed hiking maps. Call (360) 856-5700.

Residents also are just minutes away from the spectacular display of color in fields that is presented in April during the annual Skagit Valley Tulip Festival.

A wide range of healthcare services and Skagit Valley Hospital are available in Mount Vernon.

Business travelers and tourists are within an hour of Bellingham International Airport, which is served by Delta Air Lines, Horizon Air and Allegiant Air. For a big-city experience and major airports, Seattle is just slightly more than hour to the south and Vancouver, B.C. can be reached in 90 minutes.

The Burlington-Edison School District provides education for children in kindergarten through high school. Edison Elementary School was built in 1996. Nearby colleges include Skagit Valley College in Mount Vernon and Western Washington University in Bellingham.
