Burlington is home to the largest Skagit County shopping mall, a factory outlet center, delightful "in-town" shops, a public library, community and senior centers. The Greater Burlington area provides public and private golfing, an artists' colony, city parks with a variety of recreational activities, and several hiking-jogging trails. They also host the Skagit Speedway, a major casino, two state parks, and Breazeale-Padilla Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve and Interpretive Center with 10,800 acres. A wide variety of restaurants and cafes run the gamut from "fast food" to "five star", with many ethnic types represented in addition to the abundant fresh seafood, featuring the Pacific Oysters. Eagles, trumpeter swans and snow geese seem to be ever-present for bird-watchers.

Within 15 minutes are "cutting edge" hospital and medical facilities, including a new kidney dialysis center. Also, art galleries, a symphony orchestra, multi-plex movie theatres, performing theatrical, musical and dance groups, and unlimited types of entertainment are provided by Skagit Valley College. Groundbreaking is scheduled for an 18 million dollar performing arts facility for no later than Jan 1st., 2003. Fresh and salt water fishing, duck hunting, public and lake swimming, boating, health spas - it is all available. The North Cascades mountain range offers mountain climbing and snow for related activities. Also nearby are overnight camping facilities, fishing resorts, an annual bald eagle festival, Skagit River rafting, and the many activities around and on the beautiful San Juan Islands, including whale watching, scuba diving and kayaking! Local produce is available most of the year, made possible by the generally mild climate.
