Centralia, Washington
Population: 14,742
Located in Lewis County
First settled in 1852, Centralia was originally called Centerville. It became a primary rail center when the railroad came through the territory in 1872. In 1892, Centralia was incorporated and boasted a population of 500 residents. Many elements of Centralia's history can still be found here today. Historic murals have been painted on several downtown buildings and can be viewed by a walking tour of the area. Historic Fort Borst still stands, although it has been moved from its original location near the Joseph Borst Home, which is also still standing. Centralia features many historic homes and a newly revitalized turn-of-the-century downtown shopping district. For those who wish to take a bit of charm home with them, Centralia features several antique stores that are veritable treasure troves to those who possess a sense of adventure. What makes Centralia a destination for shoppers though, is the Centralia Factory Outlet Mall, located just off I-5 exit 82, with over 50 outlet stores.
