The City of Everett, population 84,130, is the county seat of Snohomish County, Washington. Located about 30 miles north of Seattle, a Pacific-Rim city situated on Port Gardner Bay. Once a mill town built on wood-based industries, today's labor force of 90,000 is predominately employed in technology and service based industries. The city government operates with an elected mayor and 7-member city council. Everett is the home of former US Senator Henry Jackson. Transportation: Interstate 5 is the major north/south highway access. A healthy Port of Everett is planning a multi-million program of expansion and improvements. The Everett marina is the second largest marina on the West Coast. The Snohomish County Airport at Paine Field has the capacity for a large range of aircraft sizes and types. The Washington State ferry system operates from Mukilteo, Edmonds and Seattle. Everett Transit and Community Transit operate extensive bus routes. Amtrak and Burlington Northern provide rail service. A regional transit system plan was approved by voters in 1996. In the City of Everett, a transportation center near downtown is being designed. Recreational Opportunities: Residents and guests enjoy 28 city-owned parks, three 18-hole golf courses, Lowell Riverfront Trail. Summer and winter sports at nearby lakes, rivers and campgrounds, the Cascade and Olympic Mountains, Whidbey and San Juan Islands. Everett is home to the Everett Aquasox baseball team, the class A minor league team associated with the Seattle Mariners. Educational Opportunities: Everett School District and Mukilteo School District serve the city of Everett's K-12 students. Everett Community College, the University of Washington and UW Bothell Branch Campus, and Edmonds Community College are also in the area.
